Five Mistakes That Detract From The Efficiency Of Your Industrial Facility's Burner

One of the best things you can do to ensure high burner efficiency is schedule burner service when you need it. However, this is not the only thing you need to do to maximize burner efficiency. You also need to plan out burner operation practices at your facility that will increase efficiency.

Unfortunately, mistakes are made at many industrial facilities that lead to reduced burner efficiency. The following are five mistakes to avoid that detract from the efficiency of your industrial facility's burner.

1. Neglecting to periodically tune your burner

You can properly tune your burner with the help of an oxygen probe. This device can help ensure the right amount of air supply to the burner. Make sure that you plan burner tunings according to changes in the seasons. The temperature of the air supply can impact how much air the burner needs for optimum efficiency. That's why you should tune your burner in preparation for seasonal temperature changes.

2. Using a fan or pump without a variable frequency drive

Most burner fans and pumps are manufactured with variable frequency drive built-in. However, it's possible that your burner does not have one if you are working with older equipment. Variable frequency drives lead to impressive power savings, so it's a good idea to invest in one if your system currently doesn't have a built-in variable frequency drive.

3. Running your burner on combustion air that hasn't been preheated

It's a good idea to invest in an air preheater. For many burners, using air that has been preheated can typically result in significant fuel savings. These savings are especially impressive if your burner is running 24 hours per day.

4. Not having a high-efficiency burner at your facility

Modern high-efficiency burners are a good investment if you're looking for ways to bring down your facility's fuel consumption. While the initial investment might be expensive, a high-efficiency burner can pay for itself in fuel savings through the years. Shop around and compare burner models from various suppliers to find a high-efficiency burner within your company's budget.

5. Failing to request efficiency suggestions from your burner service

The best source of information on maximizing burner efficiency is your burner service. Your burner service can inspect your own setup to identify adjustments and additional equipment that can bring about efficiency improvements.

Make a point of asking your burner service for efficiency advice, and be sure to follow up on any suggestions they make if possible.
